UCD PRE-MEDICAL
STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMME
The UCD Pre-Medical Programme is a highly selective programme which is intended for juniors and seniors who plan to enter a health profession upon graduation. The programme offers students specialist academic study and the opportunity of clinically relevant experience within the largest Science and Medical programmes in Ireland. The programme comprises courses from Medicine and Science and has been designed to cater for students who wish to experience the opportunity of studying and living abroad while continuing to prepare for graduate school admission in the health profession fields. Students will enjoy direct engagement with our academic staff who are experts in their fields and are at the cutting edge of teaching and research.
Programme Information
Full year: Up to 12 modules
One semester: Up to 6 modules
Average weekly load: 12 lecture hours with associated laboratory classes where appropriate.
Pre-medical Study Abroad students may take up to a maximum of two non-Science/Medical modules per semester.

Science and Medical Modules
The opportunity to experience the clinical environment during your study abroad semester is encouraged. Students will attend lectures and laboratory classes which are delivered by lecturers who are at the forefront of both teaching and research. The following are some of the suitable scientific and health based subject areas:
- Anatomy
- Biochemistry
- Environmental Biology
- Pathology
- Radiography
- Botany
- Cell and Molecular
- Biology
- Genetics
- Physiology
- Zoology
Non-Science/Non Medical Modules
Pre-Medical Study Abroad students may take up to a maximum of 2 non-science/non-medical modules per semester. These modules may be chosen from a number of programmes across the university, for example:
- Arts

- Business

Assessment
Formal examinations are set at the end of each semester in December and May. International students are expected to undertake examinations in accordance with university regulations. Increasingly, project and class-based work forms a component of the assessment process.
Credit Transfer
The home institution decides on credits to be awarded for modules pursued at UCD.
Eligibility
The minimum GPA requirement is 3.00. In addition to completing the UCD on-line application process, a standing form of identification i.e. copy of passport, a transcript of academic record to date and letter of recommendation from an academic referee should be sent to the Science Programme Office before the application deadline.
