The University of Ulster, which is a British university, is located in the north of the island, in one of the four provinces of Ireland. There are four campuses Belfast, Jordanstown, Coleraine and Magee in Derry. Undergraduate Study at Ulster

Bachelor's degrees at Ulster generally last for either three or four years. Applications for undergraduate degrees should be made through the University and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). Postgraduate Study at Ulster

Taught Master's programmes at Ulster usually involve one year of full-time study consisting of nine months taught modules and three months completing a dissertation. You can find a full list of our postgraduate degrees and apply on-line on the University's website

Study Abroad Opportunities

We also offer you the opportunity to come and study with us for either an academic year or for one semester. You may choose courses solely from your major subject or from any subject depending upon your personal requirements.

We expect most Study Abroad applicants to have completed two full years at an accredited college or University before entering Ulster. A level of attainment equivalent to a USA grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is normally required, and you will need the recommendation and approval of your home institution.

Research programmes at Ulster

Research leading to the degrees of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) may be undertaken. In addition, Ulster has introduced a series of Professional Doctorates in specific subject areas. These include structured and research elements and are designed to make use of a practitioner's professional experience in the pursuit of a higher degree. The PhD by Published Work is a degree awarded in recognition of a record of research publication in books or academic journals. Also available is the MClinRes, generally available as a part-time programme of two years' duration, aimed at health practitioners seeking a research qualification. The degree of MD (Doctor of Medicine) is also available for medical practitioners who are seeking a research-based qualification.

Orientation

We offer all our international students a one-week orientation programme prior to the beginning of Semester One. This gives you the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the campus and to make new friends. The programme will include workshops that are designed to give you guidance and support, and will help you to adapt to your new life at Ulster. An orientation programme also takes place at the beginning of Semester Two.

Where will you live?

At Ulster we take particular care of our international students and we guarantee a single room in University managed accommodation as long as you apply by the closing date. Living in University-managed accommodation provides you with a comfortable and safe environment to live and study in.

Life at Ulster

We want you to enjoy your time of study with us. No matter which campus you choose to study at you will enjoy our excellent facilities. All of our campuses have a state of the art Learning Resource Centre (LRC) or library.

We aim to offer support for all aspects of your personal and academic life while you are a student at Ulster. A comprehensive range of confidential health care is provided by a team of experienced Registered Nurses and as you will be living away from home you will be required to register with a local doctor.

At Ulster we have excellent sporting facilities to help you keep healthy and get fit. There are numerous sports and events that you can participate in.

You will also find a wide range of catering facilities available on all our campuses.

The Students' Union plays an active role on all of our campuses and you will have the opportunity to join a wide range of clubs or societies.

Employability

During your time at Ulster you will meet staff within the Careers Development Centre who offer friendly and impartial help with career planning and personal development. You will also be able to work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week during semester and full-time during vacations, if your leave to enter the UK permits this.

The International Graduate Scheme was introduced on 1 May 2007 to all international students from outside the European Economic Area so that they may stay in the UK to work for 12 months after the completion of their course. This scheme applies to students who have completed a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, PhD, Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate.
