Sunday 4th – Saturday 10th March 2012
We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting a visit to Ireland for US High School College Counselors from 4 – 10 March 2012. The five day program will include visits to all seven universities in the Republic of Ireland.
| Download application form here |
Visit Description:
This Visit is designed to familiarize counselors with Irish universities through tours of their campuses, presentations about key topics and meetings with staff and students (as well as experiencing some fun aspects of Ireland along the way!). Participation will better enable you to advise students interested in full-time overseas study, about the options available to them in Ireland. At the end of the Visit, you will understand:
• how the Irish educational system compares with the US system,
• the advantages that Irish universities offer to US students;
• the application process and tuition costs,
• how American students transition to student life in Ireland.
You will meet with faculty and students, tour the university campuses, socialize with us in the evenings and get a feeling for Irish life. Most importantly you will leave Ireland with an understanding of the value that we place on education and why we are internationally renowned for academic quality.

Where and when should I aim to arrive?
The first event in the program will be a welcome reception taking place on the evening of Sunday March 4th in Dublin. As such, participants should arrive on Sunday March 4th. Most flights from the US arrive to Dublin early in the morning and this will allow counselors time to rest during the day before the evening reception.
Participants should fly in to Dublin airport. The following airlines make regular flights between Dublin and several US cities: Aer Lingus, Delta, American Airlines. Direct flights are operated between Dublin and New York, Boston, Chicago and Atlanta.
We suggest using www.skyscanner.com to compare flight options and prices. You may also find indirect flights via London or other UK cities. London is approximately a one hour flight from Dublin.
US citizens do not require a visa to travel to Ireland.
What will the weather be like in Ireland?
The weather in Ireland can be unpredictable. In March, it may be sunny or rainy but most likely a mixture of both! You will need to bring waterproof shoes, an umbrella and a warm rain coat. Apart from that, it is best to bring layered clothing so that you can adjust what you are wearing for the weather that day.
What is there to do in my free time in the local area?
During the trip, you will visit universities in Dublin, Maynooth, Galway, Limerick and Cork. Each of these cities (and town in the case of Maynooth) has a wealth of cultural, historical and recreational activities to offer. Some activities will be included in the trip schedule (ex. Medieval Banquet at Bunratty Castle). If you would like to research activities in Ireland, the Irish Tourist Board has a fantastic website http://www.discoverireland.com/us/
Closing date for Application is November 30th 2011
